On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, The Transport Corporation of Delhi has decided to make the rides of lady passengers free. As you know this time Raksha Bandhan is on 15 August 2019, so this event of making the rides of the lady passengers of Delhi free is only for the occasion of Rakhsha Bandhan, 15 August 2019.
The rides of all the buses and AC buses have been made free of cost for Raksha Bandhan. This is a very good initiative taken by the government of Delhi to show the love to our sisters, as every woman is a sister of someone on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Approximately, three months ago the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal had planned to make all the DTC Buses, Cluster Buses and Delhi Metro Trains free of cost for women. But it didn’t work because of many disputes regarding equality, women empowerment, etc. Also, the public questioned how to this initiative increase the security of the women? So, because of many disputes, this initiative by taken down by the government of Delhi.
“On all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains women will be allowed to travel free of cost so that they have safe travel experience and can access modes of transport which they were not able to, due to high prices,” said by Kejriwal on the press conference of 3rd June.
After the statement of Arvind Kejriwal, a lot of controversies started in the public and after that as we all know the initiative was taken down by the government.
Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs also mentioned in the Lok Sabha of 27th June that it had not received any information regarding Delhi Government’s plan to provide free rides to the women of Delhi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
