The social drama, a remake of the superhit Hindi film Pink, hit the theatres on August 8 and it is still on a run. It was speculated that the film would have exploded into the 100 crore club worldwide within a few days of its release.
On Independence Day, Nerkonda Paarvai managed to rake in INR 64 lakhs in Chennai, making the cumulative total INR 8.38 crore in a span of eight days. There were several films slated for release on August 15, namely Ranarangam, Evaru, Comali and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, all in different languages. Irrespective of the stiff competition from other language films, Nerkonda Paarvai managed to retain its position on top of the box office charts in Chennai.
Other than Tamil Nadu, Nerkonda Paarvai is faring well in Kerala too. It is believed that the film is being screened in over 80 theatres in the Malayali state. H Vinoth’s Nerkonda Paarvai revolves around serious subject matters like consensual sex, women’s safety, patriarchal societies and physical as well as mental abuse.
